Father Jose Maria Legaspi

Fr. Legaspi was born in the Philippines and was educated by the Salesians of Don Bosco from pre-school until he was ordained in the priesthood. He has thirty years of experience in pastoral ministry and formal education in the United States and Philippines. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1989. He finished his theology and philosophy, cum laude, at Don Bosco Center of Studies, Philippines – an affiliate of Universita Pontifica Salesiana, Rome. Fr. Legaspi also holds a master's degree in Instructional Technology and Media from Teachers College, Columbia University. He finished his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor's in Science Education, majoring in Physics and minoring in math. He has taught physics, science and technology in basic education and higher education.

Fr. Legaspi has been engaged in various parochial ministries. He has performed in different levels and modes of engagement both on the frontlines as well as in leadership roles. Thirty years of pastoral ministry have provided him with in-depth knowledge and experience of the complexity and dynamics of evangelization and the praxis of Catholic faith and doctrine in private and in the public square.

As an assistant pastor in the Philippines, he was actively involved in the formation of youth leaders and adult evangelization. During his ministry in the Archdiocese of New York and Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, he provided guidance in preparation of First Communicants and candidates for confirmation at Holy Rosary Church, Staten Island, New York and St. Francis de Sales Church in Rockaway, New York.
